The Chromosomes of Some Tasmanian Rodents
نویسنده
چکیده
All animals were live-trapped in south-east Tasmania. Details of number and sex ar~ shown. in the table. Skins and skulls of all specImens, WIth trapping data, are lodged in the Ta~ma~an Museum, Hobart, and their museum regIstratIOn numbers are also shown in the table. The animals were killed with trichloroethylene and tissues for examination removed immediately after death. The most successful preparations were those from bone marrow. The xlphysternum and about I-I! inches of the sternum were removed and placed in 5 cc of Ringer solution, to w.hich 0.5 mg of demecolcine had been added. The tIssue was minced in this and then allowed to stand at room temperature for an hour. After centrifuging, the deposit was resuspended in warm 0.075 M potassium chloride and the suspension maintained at 37° C for an hour. Fixation was by methanol and acetic acid in a 3: 1 mixture and the preparations were stained in Giemsa.

We summarize some of the most frequenthly used rodent animal models of temporal lobe epileps and the impact of chemoconvulsants on them. Temporal lobe epilepsy is the most common epilepsy in humans in which seizures spread to the neighboring cortiase and hippocampal neuron loss and other neuropathological take place. Temporal lobe epilepsy and the other form of epilepsy cannot acquired in chini...

Introduction: Leishmanioses are important parasitic diseases presenting in three clinical forms visceral, cutaneous and muco-cutaneous. Some rodents are the reservoir hosts of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis. The disease prevails in many rural areas of Yazd Province. This was the first comprehensive study on the fauna of rodents in Yazd and was conducted to determine the fauna, distribution an...
متن کاملExtreme Telomere Length Dimorphism in the Tasmanian Devil and Related Marsupials Suggests Parental Control of Telomere Length
Telomeres, specialised structures that protect chromosome ends, play a critical role in preserving chromosome integrity. Telomere dynamics in the Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) are of particular interest in light of the emergence of devil facial tumour disease (DFTD), a transmissible malignancy that causes rapid mortality and threatens the species with extinction. We used fluorescent in...
متن کاملTelomere-driven karyotypic and molecular convergence mimics the transmissibility of cancer in the Tasmanian devil
The current mainstream theory of a transmissible cancer cell lineage in Tasmanian devils was originally based on the discovery of similarly rearranged chromosomes in facial cancers of unrelated individuals (devil facial tumor type 1, DFT1) (Pearse and Swift 2006). Several karyotypic variants of this unique transmissible cancer strain have been described in the literature since the original repo...
متن کاملA Karyological Study of Some Murid Rodents (Rodentia: Muridae) of Iran
Family Muridae consists of eight genera and 28 species in Iran. This family shows notable variability of karyological features. In this study, karyological data derived from 11 species of 7 genera of this family of Iran are presented and compared with previously published accounts. The included species were: Mus musculus musculus from Gonbad (2n=40, FN=40) and Birjand (2n=40, FN=38), Rattus nor...
